I am interested in this as well. I have been using ccextractor (
ccextractor.sf.net) to export the closed captions to a .SRT file (a standard
Subtitle File), which is just a text file. I think after that you can take
the file and convert it to subtitles to put on a DVD, but I am moving away
from storing things on DVD. If you just have a video file and the srt file
you can play the file with the captions in things like mplayer, vlc, xine,
etc.
