No joy, but I seem closer than before.
After undoing everything I did on madplanet, then trying your howto...
* - The lirc service is starting and without obvious complaints.
* - ls /dev/lirc* nets me
lirc
lirc0
lircd
lircd1
(shouldn't there be a lirc1 in there? or is that only if I have a receiver?)
* - there is no rc.local in Suse, so I put that part in /etc/init.d/boot.local
running /usr/local/bin/change_chan.sh 10 results in
irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: Connection refused
irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: Connection refused
irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: Connection refused
one set of errors for each key press, as usual.
Now what?
Thanks for the help,
J

Are you trying to use lirc to control two devices like a remote and ir-blaster? I tried the guide you're trying on my previous distro with mythtv and I could never get it to work properly. I ended using this setup http://www.htpcug.com/lircsetup_com.htm and it worked on the previous distro and my current F8 controlling both my ir receiver and ir blaster.
Jason/Mary Heise <jasonandmaryheise at yahoo.com> wrote: There's not very many good howto's on the web for setting up an ir-blaster, at least not distro-specific ones, but I found a great one at http://madplanet.com/mpg/articles/ir-blaster.html and followed it to the letter.
Partway through boot (or if I try to 'modprobe ledxmit_serial') I see
HTPC:/home/mythtv # modprobe ledxmit_serial
WARNING: /etc/modprobe.conf.local line 6: ignoring bad line starting with 'below'
WARNING: /etc/modprobe.conf.local line 8: ignoring bad line starting with 'pre-install'
...so a halfhearted test of my script gets me
HTPC:/home/mythtv # /usr/local/bin/change_channel.sh 10
irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: No such file or directory
irsend: could not connect to socket
irsend: No such file or directory
with the number of key presses called by the script clearly coinciding with the number of times those 2 errors repeat themselves (two, in this case).
Any Help?
TIA,
J
