No...that's the graphical theme, which controls how things appear. On
the same screen where you select that, there is another option near
the bottom for the menu theme. It's a totally different thing. A menu
theme only controls the layout of the various menus. A menu theme will
have it's own set of XML files.

You know...now that I look at my system, I think you've got the wrong
file. theme.xml only controls the graphics that correspond to a menu
item. Go up a directory or 2 and there will be a mainmenu.xml file.
That's where you need to disable MENU_OPTICAL_DISKS (as long as you
are using the default menu theme).
