My problem is I do not know what needs to be fixed.  I have been
running an install using Mythbuntu (so Ubuntu) for months now and
everything worked fine.  If anyone else figures this out please post
an answer and I will do the same.  I too would like to remove the -H I
have had to add to fix the other problems especially if the -H is not
really the answer to solve the source of the problem.
