I'm not sure why it would only happen with the frontend running. If
it's (not sure of the correct terminology here) a polled sensor rather
than one that has a microchip and does it's own decoding, then maybe
having extra processes running is causing it to not poll in time.
Have you tried recreating your lircd.conf file? I had a strange
problem with lirc once where irrecord determined there were fewer bits
being sent than there actually were. As a result it was getting
buttons confused. Also, you could try adjusting the gap parameter in
lircd.conf. Maybe it's set too low, so it thinks the repeat is a
separate press. I've had the opposite problem...where the gap was
really high and it thought my second press was a repeat (even if I
pressed the button slowly).

It's a new set up. I had everything running great for the longest time and the motherboard committed suicide. Got a new motherboard but kept everything else the same.
The receiver is the one that came with the pvr-350
I tried turning mythfrontend off and loading the system (by compiling a kernel with nice of -20) and the issue doesn't show up. Have tried several lircd.conf files and several remotes, even made my own lircd.conf using irrecord.
Is there anyway at all that the frontend is causing this????
