My TV is a widescreen tube type with native 1080i, which is overscanned
about 50 pixels around the edge. 1080i with my NVidia driver shimmers
like mad, but maybe images will be fine.

Nvidia says there is an option in control panel in vista to resize the
desktop. I assume it is just adjusting the size of the desktop to fit
the screen, not changing the scan of the TV. Almost all KDE programs
have --geometry options, comparable to X, but as far as I can tell it is
ignored by kdesktop. I haven't figured out how to add options to kwin.
