I have no problem playing DVDs on my EPIA M10000 using xine or mplayer. As
was suggested earlier, you should make sure the DMA is enabled for the DVD
drive. Run hdparm to check this, e.g.:

# hdparm /dev/hdc

/dev/hdc:
 IO_support    =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq     =  1 (on)
 using_dma     =  1 (on)
 keepsettings  =  0 (off)
 readonly      =  0 (off)
 readahead     = 256 (on)


if using_dma is not set to 1, then use

hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

to enable it.
