...it's all about the codec.
TV seems to do well enough with divx at low-ish bitrates.
Whereas films may require h264 to look good at the same bitrate.
Then the there's multiple pass encoding to consider as well as
a whole host of per-codec options.
It's funny that you mention this because George Ou on zdnet
was ranting about this sort of thing in relation to Apple's
announced HD movie downloads.
We had a difference of opinion on the subject of h264, bitrates and quality.
