It's possible to do better than that. If you use a 720x576 mode,
avoid all scaling and deinterlacing, configure off any graphic card
features like TVDeflicker, (and with a bit of luck) you can get MythTv
to output smooth SD content into an SD TV.  I have a miniITX VIA-based
board that can do it (and another that I couldn't get smooth -
hence why I said there's luck involved). Also I've had a Radeon
9000 connected via a VGA to Scart circuit work, although so far
only under SuSE. I haven't gotten it to work smoothly under Minimyth
yet.

It takes only one little thing not being quite right to destroy
the smoothness, but it can be achieved.
