[mythtv-users] Noobish network cable connection question, basement > upstairs

Just moved and have one ethernet cable going from the basement to upstairs
(no cable upstairs just yet either, long story with the doggone builder).
For the time being this is okay as I just have one desktop (my FE) in the
house upstairs. Now I want to keep my mythbox in the basement, but I would
really prefer to keep the router upstairs in case of powering off/on, would
prefer not to have to run down to the basement of course. This is probably
super simple but being a networking noob I'd rather check with y'all.

Right now I have mythbox (basement) > router (basement) > cable modem
(basement) > ethernet cable going from basement to upstairs >desktop
(upstairs).

How can I have it so the router stays upstairs (if need be I'll grab
something else)? I was thinking of a 3-way RJ45 splitter or something but
they're a bugger to find here and I'm not so sure they're the best solution.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

P.S. If it makes sense to go to gigabit ethernet or something perhaps now's
the time (though I'm not sure what to get there either)...

Thanks
Bob
