Here are my temps:

mythfront:~$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sda
/dev/sda: ST3500630AS: 48°C
mythfront:~$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb: ST3500630AS: 51°C

and from my main desktop:
desktop:~$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sda
/dev/sda: WDC WD2500YD-01NVB1: 32°C
desktop:~$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb: ST3400620AS: 45°C

and my work desktop:
work:~$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sda
/dev/sda: SAMSUNG SP2504C: 39°C
work:~$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb: Maxtor 6Y160M0: 54°C

Any USB connected drives fail to return any information about
temperature.
