No. You did not install them properly. Learn how to install truetype
fonts for you distro. To do it manually:

1. Make sure the directory the fonts are in is in the "Files" section of
   your /etc/X11/xorg.conf in this format:

| FontPath     "/path/to/font"
`----

2. Go to the directory where the fonts are in and run:

,----
| mkfontscale
| mkfontdir
`----

3. Retart X.
