It may be bad form to reply to such an old post, but I have the same
tuner card, and this is my overall experience with MythTV and the HD-5500:

I installed Myth last January on an AMD64X2, and am still working on
it. EIT was not a high priority until now. I am using gentoo
media-tv/mythtv-0.20.2_p15634.

I found that about 1/3 of the channels had the "Use on air guide" flag
set (maybe they are populated at random?), and naturally, they were the
only ones that received EIT information. After setting the flag on the
rest, EIT is on every channel.

I found that when I used the channel manager to edit each channel to set
the "Use on air guide" flag, the channel manager would usually crash
with SIGSEGV, but at least the update took place. I had to restart
myth-setup nearly each time I edited a channel. To bad you can't
globally update this stuff.

Mythtv is recording HDTV television just fine, and playback of
recordings is fine.

Watching live TV is choppy, and mythfrontend usually eventually
freezes. I am not sure I care too much, since watching a recording is
fine, even if the same program is currently in the process of being
recorded.

There are anomalies in the mythbackend log.

I get bursts of about 40 of these for a minute (which was reported by
Otto Kolsi otto at kolsi.fi Thu May 25 09:15:14 UTC 2006):
2008-04-15 22:55:44.017 Started PESPacket, but !payloadStart()

I also get "Symbol Rate setting (0) is out of range":
