[mythtv-users] Audio Problems

I've been running .20-fixes for quite some time now with very few issues.
Over the last week and a half I started encountering audio dropouts every
once and awhile (video is rock solid). As time went on the dropouts have
become more frequent until it completly goes away. If I exit live TV and
come back - the audio returns. The only error messege I get is that after
the audio goes away for good, mythfrontend spits out the following error:
*
NVP::AddAudioData():p1: Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost!

* Well I figured this was as good excuse as any to upgrade to .21, so I
downloaded 0.21-fixes today and got it running (I have a few minor things to
resolve, but that's another post). Unfortunately, but not surprising, the
audio problem is still there.

I did some experimenting and determined that the problem exists in
Mythmusic, playback of recordings (which previously were fine) as well as
livetv. Its very definitley a playback issue, most likely in the hardware
onboard my motherboard. Bummer (anyone have other thoughts that would make
me happier?).

So now - what are my options?

New Motherboard? - not cheap as it means a new processor, RAM, and video
card - and maybe more as well.

New audio card - might do the trick if that's where the problem really is.

Now it turns out that I have a Xitel Hifi-link USB audio interface sitting
around and it appears that there is linux support for it. Does anyone have
any experience with this and MythTV?

Am I on the right track or should I be looking elsewhere? Any thoughts
would be appretiated.

Ron
