nvidia-settings will create an xorg.conf based on your settings. I have 
used it successfully and tweaked the result.

On my nvidia 7 series I use the VGA and the HDMI to the same LCD TV with 
mythtv on the HDMI and Ubuntu desktop on the VGA. Now if I only could 
get audio working over the HDMI.
