Mike,
   By switching to the 'Slim' profile the problem is solved. So, I
understand from this link that the slim profile is similar to 0.20 and
indeed for this problem the results are similar. However my hardware
is good enough to handle something higher - 3GHz AMD64, good memory,
reasonable ATI graphics card - so I'm wondering what's causing the
jitter.

   Anyway, it's a start. The new 0.21 server ran fine last night. A
few programs recorded. No sense you of how well commercial detection
worked. I'll look at that today, as well as other things like
audio/video sync, etc.

   Interested in your comments about choosing a good profile and
fixing this problem. I'll be switching my dedicated frontends over to
0.21 starting today so I'll get another view as to whether this is a
common issue across multiple machines or limited to this specific box.
