Something else to consider:

For x86_64, you will likely have better optimizations from distros than you will
from x86.  Using Ubuntu/Mythbuntu as an example, when compiling for 32 bit, the
code is optimized to i686, to cover most 32 bit CPUs.  When going on x86_64, you
don't have worry about having any legacy instructions for those other CPUs, as
all x86_64 have SSE2 etc.
