    That's a nice idea but it won't hold up.

    Even if that sort of legal language does tend to dissuade the average
meat packer from suing, you are liable to piss off some rabid personal
injury attorney eventually.

    Frying some Tivo owned by a member of ATLA could end up being a 
very painful prospect.

    ...except the power company in that situation gets to use "act
of God" sort of language to describe the situation and their excuse.
A cable provider playing games with their own equipment wouldn't get
to use that excuse.
    
    Although a complete and total lack of any basis in law for a 
position never stopped a company or their phone drones from 
holding such a position...
