I have a similar issue; AFAICT it's due to a horrible mobo.  I have a 
gigabyte mobo that can't seem to handle the PCI bus and SATA at the same 
time, so data gets dropped.  Ethernet is barely functional if the 
backend is recording.

It's driving me nuts!  Especially since now the local PBS station has 
taken to showing the same show on analog + SD at the same time, so I get 
two episodes at once - but both are corrupted.

I'm hoping a new job and a bigger paycheck will come to the rescue.  I'm 
at the end of my tech patience and/or ability.
