Ok, I'm a complete newbie to mythtv, just to let you know. I have cable
provided by my phone company (phone, dsl, cable package). They provided me
with a dsl modem (VisionNet 204ER-4) which has four ports on it (one for
internet and three for tv). The signal is sent over cat5 to an Amino AmiNET
110 set top box. I'm sure this is not new to anyone, I just want to be
thorough. I would like to be able to have my server record shows like a
PVR. I have no tuner card because it seems that I ought to be able to
connect via cat5 from the modem to the NIC on my server. MythTV would, I
guess, be able to tune to a channel to record it when needed. The problems
I'm running into are as follows:

1. I cannot find a decent howto for configuring iptv connections / cards.
2. I do not know what IP address to give my NIC on the server. The AmiNET
110's have a settings page that lists their IP addresses ( one is
10.2.199.135, and the other is 10.2.200.133).
3. I do not know the IP of the modem or if it even needs one.
4. How do I find out the IP addresses of the channels offered from my
provider for viewing / recording?
5. I don't know what else I'm missing to be able to understand how to do
this!!

I have a mediocre PC as my server which is running FC6. I have mythtv
installed and running. I do not have videolan (VLC?) installed. There are
two NIC's in the server, one is on my local lan, and the other was unused
until I wanted to do this, now it is plugged into the last port on my
VisionNet ADSL modem. If you need more info, let me know.

John
