I use vncserver on my mythbox to keep tabs on logfiles, top, compile, etc. -
"normal" desktop text is hard to read on my 1080i CRT RPTV. Running
"nvidia-settings -c :0" works a treat from any xterm to control settings for
the TV (display 0), I have my VNC desktop at the default 1024x768.
