You have to make sure that you allow auto-transcoding in the recording
profile.  Go to Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles -> Encoders

Make sure the 'Enable auto-transcode after recording' is turned on for
any profiles that you want the auto-transcoding to take effect.
