[mythtv-users] DVD Drive slow down in Gutsy

I was having the same problem, until someone on this list posted a
link to a little program called 'speedcontrol'.  Worked like a charm!

This is the command I put into /etc/rc.local to set the speed at each
boot up: `/usr/local/bin/speedcontrol -x 2 /dev/dvd`

YMMV since not all hardware will respond in the same way.  I'm using
an NEC DVD R/RW drive and it works great.
