Definitely sounds like a rewrite of the whole mythtv UI is needed to do 
what you want.  There's no 'slink' and no 'smooth' in the UI.

Even how all the themes look is forced upon us by the UI code itself.  
All the themes are (rather unsurprisingly), merely variations on a theme 
as a result.
