It seems like it should work. My setup has plenty of CPU horsepower but
when watching 1080i with deinterlacing I get an broken image at the top 1/7
or so of the image. Switching VSync off helps this but a times fast
changing frames get broken bands all over the place.

My HD cable box has no problems with HD playback at 1080i. If it wasn't for
the terrible overscan I could probably use actual interlaced video output
for 1080i but I have to shrink the mythtv menu video size to work with the
menus. It insists on playing my video with the same constraints.

It would be nice if I could get MythTV to playback at full screen 1080i for
video and switch to the restricted screen dimensions for menu access.
