They're getting better, but yeah.
For a while you could often block over 50% of spam just by making the
MTA wait ten seconds before sending the initial greeting, and hanging
up on anyone who started sending SMTP commands during that time.
Some of the spamware has gotten wise to this and waits for the
command responses now, though.
