Clean MPEG2 compresses VERY well. Splitting up things like
closed captions and subtitles and extra audio tracks is a much
bigger bother than "MPEG2 doesn't compress very well".

Effective MPEG2 compression of movies (as opposed to TV whether
it's recorded or off of DVDs) does take a heap big amount of cpu time.
The resulting files take more brute force to decode too.

But I wouldn't exactly say that MPEG2 doesn't compress well.
