[mythtv-users] Not getting all channels!

Hello again everyone. I've had a few threads asking about this topic,
but thought I'd give it another shot. All of the suggestions that I
have gotten in the past haven't worked, so I'm rethinking my current
setup. I have a pcHDTV5500 card and Myth-0.20.2 (the SD updated
version) on FC6, and have Comcast in Southern New Jersey. I used Myth
to scan for channels and came up with 328 channels. However, only 50 of
them are known/usable. The rest of them simply show a blank screen when
I tune them within Myth, or show the "You should've gotten a lock by
now" message. All of the blank channels have channel IDs similar to
79#0, 17#1, etc.

I started looking around at the forums on the pcHDTV site, and came
across this thread: http://www.pchdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1707.
In it, it is mentioned that Comcast sends everything encrypted except
for the really basic cable (local stations, home shopping stations,
etc.). Could this be what I'm running into? Am I basically screwed
here and "S.O.L."?

Would investing in an HDHomeRun device help me get more of the channels
that Comcast transmits in my area? I do have firewire from my STB to my
Myth box, and I do know that it's working (I think I used portctl to
test it; something like that), but I haven't tried using it to record
programs. Would I need to get the firewire working so that the
encrypted channels come into the STB, then use the firewire connection
to record?

Thanks for any help. This is pretty much the last thing that I need to
get working to have the fully functional Myth setup that I envisioned
several months ago when I started all of this.

Harry
