You are right, there are in fact not good choices for this
point.
Now, I also adopted your 2nd suggestion, and now it works well.
Meanwhile, I have another problem:
How to shutdown MythTV from external command from terminal in
Linux or
external Java program?

RE below:
You can either issue, sudo killall mythfrontend.real (or is it mythfrontnd?) 
or first issue a ps -e | grep myth, find out the process id, then sudo issue 
sudo kill 5467 (if 5467 is the process id of mythfrontend)
