Thanks for the response!

I actually did that. A couple of times after the error. The symptoms
are either irrecord just bails out immediately, or the rare time it
doesn't, the key has more digits than the others (like 0xfe0b for
stop, etc, and play might be 0xfa000brrr000). It's very problematic
which makes me think maybe the key is setup to send multiple "play"
commands (the problem with Activity based remotes) and it screws with
LIRC somehow. I'll keep trying, thanks for the comments.

I've only used it for a couple of weeks now in my own setup; I've used
it sporadically many times before, but this is my first long-term use
of it. I've normally been using the serial IR Blaster/receiver combo
I got from irblaster.info, and before that a receiver from the
StreamZap combo; so those are my only real comparisons (but I also
recently got the MCE combo, so I'll be trying that soon). The
USB-UIRT is really really good at not missing key presses, and I have
yet to have it fumble on an IR send either. My biggest "gripe" (that
I'm sure is pretty stupid really) is that it lights up everytime I
press a key. The other thing that I love about it is it's range.
With the serial IR Blaster I had to be within inches (usually within
less than an inch) to have it send the signal to the device. This is
great for discreet setups where you attach the IR head directly to the
device being controlled, but with the USB-UIRT I can control multiple
devices very easily by just placing it in a range of about 3-5 feet
from my devices. It works to control my A/V receiver, my projector,
my DVD player (although that was just for testing, I usually use my
Myth boxes player), and my VCR. It changes the projector to the right
input, changes the A/V receiver to it's right input, it's been very
handy. Put some black electric tape over the red LED or even crack
the case and cut the wire if live dangerously I suppose.
Anyway, yeah, I like it. Having one device to do both receive and
send that is "powerful" is a very nice'ity' that I think I'll stick
with for a while.
