Billy,

You're a genius! mii-tool was reporting 100baseT4, but somehow ethtool
was reporting full duplex. I simply forced the port into full duplex
and everything is back to normal. BTW everything on my network plugs
directly into a Linksys WRT54G router which is a 10/100 switch. My
backend is correctly detecting FD and my frontend used to but for some
reason isn't acting correctly any longer.
