lvreduce only reduces the size of the *volume*.  It's up to you to  
shrink the filesystem, first, so it's smaller than the new volume.   
What you've done is chopped the end off your filesystem, corrupting it.

What kind of filesystem is it?  (ext3, xfs, reiserfs, vfat?)  It  
makes a difference.
