[mythtv-users] HD glitches every couple of seconds? Something to check ...

Hi,

I've been playing with my F/B setup over the last couple of weeks. I
have a 3.2Ghz P4. One of the things to look at if you have dropped
frames / glitches every couple of seconds, even after you have the real
time priority, Opengl, and nvidia-settings stuff figured out, is the
commercial scanner. I found that my box cannot commercial scan two hd
programs and watch a third no mater how LOW CPU Priority, ioniced, or
niced the commercial flagger was. At worst I get some frequet
pixelation, at best I get frames dropped every couple of seconds. As
soon as I limited the system to one commercial flagging job at a time I
could set the Job CPU Priority to High with no problem using this
commflag command:

ionice -n 7 nice -n 19 mythcommflag -j %JOBID% -V %VERBOSELEVEL%

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 with the generic kernel. This kernel sees the
P4's hyperthreader as a second core. I'm running a PCIE 6200LE.

The nice thing about running only one commflag job at a time is that it
can usually do this in ~real time~ provided I give a program an extra 5
mins for the logo building & detection before I start watching a
program. This means I can usually start watching an hour show 20min
after it starts, 15 min for the commercial time I'm chopping and 5 more
min for the commercial flagger's overhead.

Good Luck,
Jon
