For my 2 cents, the nicest tool for editing recordings is VideoRedo, and 
it's well worth the US$50.  It does frame-accurate edits, and using the 
thumbnails and audio display, you can make very good cuts.

It runs quite well under recent versions of "wine".  (Yeah, it will 
still crash, but this almost always happens for me AFTER returning from 
writing the edited file -- I haven't had it fail during an editing 
session prior to writing the output file for a couple of months, under 
fairly heavy use.)

I currently use wine/VideoRedo from my Ubuntu desktop, and mount my Myth 
recordings directory via NFS.  (You probably won't want to run VRD 
directly on your Myth box.)

If you are using Windows for your desktop, you can set up Samba on your 
Myth backend to access your recordings.

customer...)
