Right.  I realize that you weren't calling me an idiot.  I was calling
myself one (partly for believing a normally-reliable source that told me
that HTTP was a text-based protocol that was not 8-bit clean, without
ever checking for myself and making assumptions based on that unproven
info).  After all, I was the first in this thread to use that term.  :)

Right.  And, in your case, with encryption causing a CPU-bound transfer
process, the encryption part is definitely a factor.
