I was not able to play non-mpeg2 streams with a decent framerate when
I first put together my mythtv box (v 0.16 I believe).  Fortunately my
ATI tvout became supported around that time, so I'm not sure if it has
improved since then.  But it was unwatchable for me, playing around
5-10fps.
