You don't need to channel scan a PVR-500.  You should also be configuring it
as IVTV.  You will configure two cards, one for each video device created by
your card.  This is probably /dev/video0 and /dev/video1.

Yes, but your problem is likely the use of V4L instead of IVTV as the card
type.
