It may also be useful to see *your* (speaking to the OP) xorg.conf.
What resolution are you trying to achieve?  What resolutions do your
television support?  

It will also be useful to see your Xorg.0.log when logverbose is turned
up to, say, 6 (e.g. startx -- -logverbose 6).  This will show the EDID
information you receive from the TV among other things.
