The mythtv internal player does a great job on dvd's (I am running svn 
but anything 0.20 or later will work)  If you check the box in setup, it 
will monitor for the insertion of a dvd and play it automatically. The 
myth menu is also automatic. You do not need any additional lirc devices 
defined as myth is in control.

Of course you are welcome to set up xine as the default player. There 
are lots of howto's for that.
