I'm not sure about the RCA box, but, if you've connected to the serial 
port on your puter, then, try playing with the directv.pl script in 
contrib/channelchangers.

I've got a D11, and followed the wiki on making the cable, and after 
installing some perl stuff to talk to the serial port, I could use the 
script to talk to the box, and get responses back.
