Mine works fine (2 channel).  I'm running Gentoo with alsa in the kernel 
(2.6.19-r5), and using the hda-intel driver (CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL=m in 
the kernel .config file).

Don't know if that helps any ... maybe it's a bad connector?
