Basically just start out setting them up to run as frontend
machines (installing all of the codecs and whatnot) and then just
run mythbackend. If you will be transcoding then these machines need
to have read/write filesystem access to where your recordings are
mounted.
mythtv-setup will do a sanity check on this and complain
if it sees that it can't write into the Recordings directory.
