 I believe it is in the front end log.  No special switch. I did have to
capture it though using mythfrontend > mythfrontend.log

Where do you see this in the logs? Any switches you use to get this?  
I have PT500U and never saw this so I'm curious if I'm missing it or  
if my xorg or mythtv settings have some how avoided the problem.
