I just went through this procedure with a new Vizio 32". over
dvi/hdmi the tv could not do anything other then 640x400, no matter
what I tried. I re read the specs, and it only supported the native
resolution via VGA, I swapped cables, and viola, I got my 1366x768.
Maybe your set is similar
