Hi Bob, I did the channel icons following this how-to, and it worked like a 
charm.

The "mkiconmap.pl.gz" is 
in  /usr/share/doc/mythtv-backend/contrib/mkiconmap.pl.gz 
(on my machine...yours may be elsewhere).

Copy that "mkiconmap.pl.gz" to your home directory (or where you want it) and 
extract it. 
Then, run :
perl mkiconmap.pl

and follow the instructions on the how-to I linked above.
