Any light weight windows manager will be good.  I use Fluxbox.  Some prefer
Ratpoison, FWM, etc.  There's even a guide on the wiki to not use a windows
manager at all.

Best to avoid GNOME or KDE for a dedicated Mythbox.  You don't use their
functionality and they're usually more resource hungry by comparison.  It
depends on who you are too.  Sometimes it's better to use what you know.
