Can you provide more information?  Are you using GentooX, Xebian, or
another pure Linux distro?  Are you using XBMC w/ the xmbcmyth
scripts?

It sounds like you might be using xbmcmyth, which requires you (IIRC)
to have samba running on your backend.  Then, you have to specify in
the settings what your backend's IP is, as well as the name of the
share.

It's just a random shot in the dark. If you can be more specific about
your setup, we might be able to give you a better idea.
