You are probably going to have the same issue. To correct this I had to 
make a custom modeline which  defines a smaller display area while still 
using the standard timings. The wilsonet fedora mythtv howto high 
definition tv tricks and tips section is a good reference. I was able 
to  make a custom modeline for my VGA driven HD monitor which perfectly 
fits the display area inside the viewable portion of the screen.  You 
may find his predefined modelines work as-is for you. As always, YMMV.
