Thank you all for your replies. I realise now that it is nothing to do
with the DVD part. I looked at the original recording and, sure enough,
the start was missing. I had considered setting the start time in
advance but I was wondering about the editing bit. Do I understand that
there is a built in editor in mythtv or do I need to use something like
Avidamux?
