Can I pipe up on the environmentalist point of view <snore mode on>...)?
Currently the amount of energy consumed by a PC in it's lifetime is about
80% during manufacture and only 20%
during its use.

What does this mean?
It means that buying second hand (or even saving it from the tip) is the
greenest way to go, even with the newer lower power CPUs.

And MythTV is a great use for old computers. As previous posters have said
anything from 800Mhz (e.g. a P3) up will suit your *basic* needs... so get
on ebay/Freecycle/Craig's list and find yourself a Mythtv bargain!
Better for your pocket and better for the environment.
